Linnet & Wick

Candle care guide

A candle that is burned well lasts longer and smells better. These are the habits we follow ourselves.

The first burn

Let the first burn last until the wax has melted all the way to the edge, usually two to three hours. This prevents tunnelling and gives the candle a flat surface for the rest of its life.

Trim the wick

Before every burn, trim the wick to about five millimetres. A long wick makes a tall flame, soot and a hot jar. A short one burns evenly.

Keep it to four hours

Burn for no more than four hours at a time. Let the candle cool and set before lighting it again. Never leave a burning candle unattended or near anything that can catch fire.

When to stop

When about one centimetre of wax remains, stop burning and let the jar cool. Then rinse it with hot water and reuse it for brushes, cotton pads or small plants.
